Salon review: Newlook Salon, Aswaaq Centre

Recently opened at Aswaaq Centre in Al Quoz 2, Newlook Salon offers a contemporary and sleek one-stop shop for all your beauty needs.

The salon’s dazzling glamour is clear to see from the get-go. The entrance hall is decked out in bright whites with gold detailing and displays an array of luxury products on offer at the salon, while the interiors boast mirrored surfaces, plush leather chairs and rustic-chic exposed brickwork.

Following my greeting by salon owner Kiran and her wonderfully hospitable team, I make my way to the right-hand side of the salon for my first treatment (the salon is divided into two halves – hair treatments on one side, and nails, facials, massages and waxing on the opposite side.)

First up is the signature deep cleansing facial. My therapist Christina beings with a basic cleanse before she starts to exfoliate any dead skin cells. After applying a serum to my face to enable skin recovery post-exfoliation, she adds a cooling aloe gel to moisturise and re-hydrate my skin. Next, a raspberry-infused face mask, which Christina applies generously, before beginning to gently massage my face, neck and arms, paying attention to the tension areas in my shoulders. The facial concludes with a final application of moisturiser (specifically for combination skin like mine – damn you, oily T-zone!) and setting spray, and I leave with a notable glow that remains rosy and bright for the entire weekend.

Back in the dedicated hair area of the salon, I begin my Alterna treatment with a standard wash, before a natural caviar is applied. My stylist, Mira, applies the bond repair product to target my dry, damaged areas, and I am left for 15 minutes under the steamer while it works its magic. And magic it certainly is – my hair instantly feels distinctly smoother, silkier and more hydrated.

This is certainly one to try for the Dubai summers when heat damage to hair can be at its worst. The best bit? The entire treatment took no more than 45 minutes including a quick blow-dry, so it’s a great solution for Mums who are short of time but looking for a quick-fix for damaged locks.
