Mitts & Trays, Bluewaters Island, Dubai

A trip to Bluewaters Island is incredibly calming. The serene neighbourhood is flooded with natural light, walkways and stunning views from every corner. If you’re looking for a lunch-spot for the ladies, this is the place to visit.

The decor features plenty of greens with copper finishing at the coffee and dessert bar. Simple wooden tables allow the dishes to be the highlight of this dining experience, with an international menu that caters to all palettes. The homegrown concept serves a menu brimming with pasta dishes, seafood, meat, burgers and plenty more. We began with a kale and walnut salad to whet our appetite, beautifully presented with candied walnuts, dried cranberries, feta cheese for and balsamic dressing, and a slight tartness. The second starter could be eaten as a main course as it’s decadent and heavy, but absolutely delish. Cajun spiced fried potato cubes are drizzled with hot demi glaze, and topped with melted cheese, sour cream, jalapenos and scallions. It’s a dish you have to try, so skip snacks or breakfast if you can. For mains, we highly recommend sharing Seabass, a traditional Arabic-style dish with modern influences. The fish is cooked perfectly, with the grainy pilaf complementing and caramelized onions complementing each bite. Sweet-tooth lovers can share the saffron tres-leches or a wide variety of cakes.

OSH, La Mer

My dining partner and I weren’t expecting this modern Uzbekistani restaurant to be incredibly packed on a Sunday night. However, a trip to the star-lit ceiling floor upstairs and a bite of our first starter gave us a clear understanding why. The menu feature Uyghurs cuisine – combining Central Asian and Uzbekistani food – with views of the stunning beachfront and Burj Khalifa as a backdrop.

Our meal began with hot cherry cottage cheese dumplings – soft little parcels with a sweet-tangy sauce; a generous portion of roasted eggplant salad; and pumpkin and lamb manti – the sweet, meaty parcels take about 20-30 minutes to cook, but they are well worth it. The starters itself are quite substantial but do leave space for the sweet and sour snapper, charcoal-grilled tender lamb shashlik, and pilaf. You can’t leave without trying the Anna Pavlova or honey cake, that are both incredibly sumptuous.

Kulture House, Jumeirah 1

This adorable concept store nestled in a villa on Jumeriah road combines a boutique, café and clothing store, bringing together culture and pieces from across the globe.

The quirky café is vibrant, bright and airy, with kitsch-like décor touches stemming from the Middle East and Africa. The menu showcases breakfast-style dishes such as mezze, jalapeno eggs Benedict, labneh shakshuka and granola. For lunch and dinner options, pick from salmon fish fingers, linguine with sundried tomato, or the Kulture smash burger. We had the latter, the ultimate cheese burger with-noticeably high-quality ingredients. The Angus beef patty is served in a soft bun with cheddar cheese, pickles, a special sauce, and a side of fries. Before you head around the store to admire the art, and shop for everything from summer wear to tableware, perfumes and beauty products, order the fried oreos. These hot batter-fried pieces are served with a sugar glaze which you can drizzle all over – best enjoyed with a cup of coffee.
