Parents face car-seat fines of up to AED 1,200
UAE parents face car-seat fines if they fail to comply with new vehicle legislation brought in to place this month.
The new laws, which were brought into force on 1st July include three rules which affect parents directly:
- Fine of AED 400 and four black points for allowing a child under 145 cm or under the age of 10 years old to sit in the front seat of any vehicle.
- A fine of AED 400 and four black points for failing to have children four-years-old and under in a fixed car-seat.
- A penalty of AED 400 and four black points for carry passengers of any age without seat belts.
According to reports, some shops have seen a 100% rise in the sale of car seats since the law was brought in to place at the weekend. Certain baby shop outlets reported selling as many car-seats in a day, as they would normally sell in one month.
